September is going to be a busy month in
our parish - here are details of three important events, all very
different, which we can look forward to in the weeks ahead.
On Saturday 5th we will be hosting a special Cytun Afternoon Tea in
Holy Trinity Hall. The President of Cytun, the Revd. Beverley Ramsden,
has asked me to give a short presentation on the 150th Anniversary of
Holy Trinity Church during the afternoon. So do come along to welcome
our guests and share with them what we have been doing in this special
anniversary year.
Then on the following Saturday - the 12th - the we will be having a
service of the Renewal of Marriage Vows and Celebration of Friendship,
a 150th Anniversary event. Maybe we could find a more snappy name for
this service - but this title is actually a pretty good description of
what the service will be all about. We will begin by celebrating the
gift of marriage and invite married couples to renew their commitment
to each other. Then we will move on to reflect on other human
relationships, especially that of friendship.
The Church has traditionally made much of marriage but for most of us -
married or not - friendships are a vital part of our lives and need to
be celebrated too. Both marriage and friendship are ways in which we
discover something of the love of God for us, so there should be
something for everyone in this special service. I am delighted to
announce that, on the 12th we will be joined by Ann Gill, the Mothers'
Union Welsh Provincial President, who will be taking part in the
service.
Then at the end of the month, on Wednesday 30th we will be welcoming
Bishop Andy to our parish for a day visitation as part of his program
to visit all the Parishes and Ministry Areas in the diocese. He
conducted aslmilar visitation a number of years ago and it will be good
to welcome him back. Normally when the Bishop comes it is for a
particular event - such as a special service or a Confirmation - but a
day visit like this enables him to see something of the daily life of
the parish and to meet as many parishioners as possible. The program
for the day has yet to be worked out but! hope that it will involve as
many of you as possible. Look out for announcements!
Enjoy the month!
