Being a Guide is all about learning new skills, making your own
decisions and having fun. Guiding provides a safe environment to
explore new possibilities and achieve personal goals while making
friends and having adventures. And it’s up to each Guide to work out
which opportunities are relevant for her, whether it’s improving her
football skills, party planning or learning about independent living.
Any girl aged 10 to 14 who wishes to, can become a Guide.
In this month, a member of 1st
Llandudno Guides, Jane McAdam was presented her Baden Powell Award by
Mayor of Llandudno, Cllr. Janet Jones. Jane has worked very hard to
gain this award. The Baden-Powell Challenge is the ultimate individual
achievement for Guides. It is for girls who wish to 'stretch'
themselves as individuals. Well Done Jane!
To celebrate the festive season we went to see a pantomime in Conwy.
‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’ by Civic Hall Amateurs Players,
attended the Christingle Service at Holy Trinity
and had a party night with lots of silly festive games.

September 2009
From September 2009, 1st
Llandudno Guides have been celebrating Girlguiding UK’s Centenary year.
Centenary Launch
On the 6th September 2009,
Llandudno Guides joined hundreds of Girlguiding UK members to celebrate
100 years at the Greenwood Forest Park, Y Felin Heli.
On this weekend exactly 100 years ago, a small group of courageous
girls stepped forward at the 1909 Boy Scouts Rally in Crystal Palace
Park and asked its Founder, Robert Baden-Powell, for ‘something for the
girls’. Guiding has come a long way since then – the movement has
travelled all over the globe with over 10 million members worldwide and
over 500,000 in the UK.
The photo shows some of the
girls at Greenwood with the Centenary
Bear.
Adventure 100 Badge
In the centenary year 1st
Llandudno Guides will be working towards their Adventure 100 badge.
It is a Centenary Challenge that
all members can take part in. Guides are to undertake something that
they have not done before or something which will be a real challenge,
gaining points along the way.
In September we took part the
following in our weekly meetings:
· We invited local police Community
Police Sergeant Sam Roberts to tell us how to keep ourselves safe
in the dark
· Used water dyes to tie dye socks with
centenary colours (pink & blue!)
· Redesigned the guide uniform for 2015
and beyond. The adult leaders choose their favourite five ideas and
they were sent to the Girlguiding HQ and are now on the centenary
