On Thursday 28 December
2006 a peal of Cambridge S Major, composed
by Robert E Hardy, was rung by members of the North Wales Association
of Church Bellringers
in 2hrs 56mins. It was conducted by Neil Bennett and the band
contained one of our own ringers, James Whittaker. The
bellringers are shown below.

On Friday 16 February 2007
the
bells were rung half muffled before
and after the funeral service of Miss Sheila Crosby, a former
churchwarden of Holy Trinity and a great supporter and lover of the
bells. "May she rest in peace".
On Saturday 17 February
2007, our tower hosted the AGM of the North Wales Association of
Church Bellringers
(Gwynedd
& W Clwyd Branch). Members enjoyed ringing from 2pm, followed
by a service of evensong, tea, AGM and further bellringing in the
evening. At the meeting Tony Diserens (Bangor) was re-elected
Branch Ringing Master, and Michael Bridges (Beaumaris & Bangor) as
Branch Secretary. Elizabeth Curtis (Llandudno) retired as Treasurer
after 7 years in the post and was replaced by Llandudno Tower Captain,
Stan Whittaker. Four new members were elected, Tony Hollingworth
(Bangor), and three from Llandudno, Robin Marsh, Jesse Bellis and 7
year old Akasha Costello.
On Sunday 11 March 2007 a
Quarter Peal of 1260 Plain Bob Minor was rung to mark the successful
completion of the restoration of the stained glass windows of Holy
Trinity Church and to celebrate the life of The Rev. D M
Ferriday. We are very grateful to Tim Joiner for arranging this
and to the bellringers who were: Lynn

On
Thursday 12 April 2007 we were please to welcome
members
of the Hereford Diocesan Guild, who rang the bells at Holy
Trinity.

Over
the Spring Bank Holiday Weekend of 5, 6
& 7 May, the Llandudno
Victorian
Extravaganza took place in the town.
The Lichfield Diocesan Mobile Belfry was in attendance just outside
Holy Trinity's grounds in Mostyn Street. Many thanks to Ray and
Wendy Daw (N Staffs Association) and Peter Woollam (Shrops Association)
for making this possible and being so generous with their time and
patience, in showing ringers and non-ringers how to ring the
bells. The belfry
certainly seemed to go down well with the
general public and we hope that there will be queues to
towers across
North Wales (and beyond), of young and old wishing to learn the art or
to renew their interest
in the activity. Many thanks to those
ringers who helped by ringing demonstration
sessions, and to the
Extravaganza Committee who sponsored bringing the
belfry to Llandudno.
We wonder if the exercise can be repeated next year!

On Saturday 28th July bellringers from the Bewdley
(Worcestershire)
area led by Paul Marshall visited North Wales towers including ours in
the afternoon. We hope you all enjoyed your visit.
On Sunday 29 July bellringers from St James' Church, Didsbury led by
Duncan Vyse, joined us to ring for the morning service. Again we
hope you enjoyed your visit to North Wales and Llandudno in particular.
On Sunday 12 August a quarter peal of 1260
Reverse Canterbury Pleasure
Doubles was rung to mark and celebrate the centenary of the Scout
Movement and the 250th anniversary of the birth of Thomas
Telford. The ringers appear below:-

On Friday 7th September a quarter peal of 1260
Plain Bob Doubles was
rung to celebrate the 90th birthday on this day of Mrs Effie
Rowlands. Mrs Rowlands had served as PCC secretary for many years
and MU Enrolling Member as well as other roles in the Parish. This
quarter was also rung to celebrate, on the following day, the marriage
in Bath of our former curate Nigel Dilkes to Maggie. The
bellringers are shown below with Mrs. Rowlands.

On Saturday 8th September we entered a team in the Association
Striking
Competition held at Abergele. Despite some nice comments from the
judge, we still came only 6th.

On Saturday 29 September ringers from the Barnsley area of West
Yorkshire, led by Brian Sanders, visited North Wales towers including
Llandudno. It was encouraging that the party of about 20 included
several youngsters and that all seemed to have enjoyed ringing our
bells. Please feel welcome to visit again - we really were
pleased to see you all.
This weekend proved a "bumper" weekend for ringing visitors with
several other individuals, including "Big Wilf and wife Cherie",
joining our Friday night practice and Sunday morning service ringing
sessions.
On Saturday 6th October a quarter peal was rung
to
celebrate the imminent marriage of one of our ringers, David Raggett,
to Ruth Parker. News of David, Ruth and their wedding, including
a photograph, can be found on the
Bells News Extra 2007 page.
The Parish Christmas Fayre was held on Saturday 24 November
and the handbell ringers entertained everyone with a selection of
Christmas tunes.
We wish everyone a very Happy Christmas
especially ringers everywhere. Greetings to our own ringers and
to all those visitors to our tower throughout the year.
Ringing over the Christmas period will be as usual on Sundays (10am -
10.30am), Christmas Eve ringing will be 11pm - 11.30pm, and Christmas
Morning 10am - 10.30am. Visitors will be most welcome.
We also hope to ring the New Year in on 31 December - meet at 11.30pm.
A
Bellringer's Visit to Kenya
The following articles appeared in the March 2007 issue of the
Parish
Magazine
Last October, my wife and I went to Kenya to teach at a Maasai primary
school called Olosho-Oibor, some one and a half hours drive over rutted
and very uneven roads from Nairobi. We were only the second
volunteers to have placements there and we were deeply affected by the
problems at the school.
There
are no computers or typewriters, or even electricity; we took the only
calculators they had seen. The 340 children, from 5 to 20 years
(in the same class) were very bright and keen to learn, but their
future is bleak as they have to compete with children in Nairobi, whose
schools are far better equipped.
We gave them the money we had
saved for a safari and they laid a concrete path in front of the
classrooms and had four steel doors made as the old ones had been eaten
by termites.
The
schoolwork was labour intensive because we spent half our time marking
then tabulating results, all of which could have been much more quickly
done if a computer had been available.
If
they had solar power to create energy, the school could provide weekly
board for some of the children, who daily set off to school at 6.00 am
walking up to 10 km, risking dangers such as meeting leopards, hyenas
and snakes. (No health and safety here!).
It
is our intention to raise £500 to purchase and install a solar
panel that will initially provide the school with some energy towards
its needs. With the help of the other Holy Trinity bellringers,
we have raised £250 so far.

video you had taken, we could not help but be moved to the point of
helping you with your objective. We shall therefore make every
effort we can to ensure that you raise the £500 you need.

Since
these items appeared in the Parish Magazine, a very warm-hearted and
generous parishioner has offered to make the amount up to
£500. This is marvellous news and we all extend our thanks
to that person.
In addition to the £250 provided by the parishioner mentioned
above, a further four smaller donations were received, making a total
of £550. This has now been sent to the Headmaster at the Masaii
school and hopefully we will have some photographs in due course to
show the use made of the funds. We are very grateful to those who
donated, and hopefully we shall raise more funds in due course.

The
money raised was sent in March to Paul Kenaye Sakuda the Headmaster at
the Olosho-oiber primary school. An email message on 4 April
(reproduced below) confirms that it was received. To send such a
message, Paul would have travelled to an internet cafe in Nairobi.
The original purpose of the
fundraising was for the provision of a solar panel, but a request for a
change to finance something more urgent and basic was agreed by us and
we hope those who donated will agree with our decision. When you
read below that "the girls were much excited when they heard that they
were going to have new pit latrines" we think that justifies the action
and highlights the lack of the things and facilities we take so much
for granted.

Bellringers
I
am glad to have this opportunity to express my regards to you and your
church members. My names are Paul Kenaye Sakuda the Head teacher
(Principal) Olosho-oibor primary school. I was given your email
address by Mr. Clive Pyke. I am happy to let you know that I
received the total amount you sent to our school for the construction
of the pit latrines and a changing room for our girls. The girls
were much excited when they heard the good news.
I met the committee members twice trying to arrange the project to
start. The digging of the pit has already started. We look
forward to finish the construction of the pit latrines and the changing
room by three weeks from now.
Please express our regards to all the church members for their
contribution for the bibles says bless is the hand which gives than the
one which receives.
