Events at Holy Trinity Church in 2012


The church was beautifully decorated for Christmas and it was a pleasure to welcome many visitors to share the worship with us. At the Epiphany services on 6 January the wise men and their gifts were added to the Nativity scene.

Christmas Fayre
The parish Christmas Fayre on Saturday 17 November was well attended, with people buying gifts from the stalls, enjoying refreshments and listening to the Holy Trinity handbell ringers.

Remembrance Day, Sunday 11 November
Special services this day were:  9.45 Civic Remembrance Service and 10.55 Act of Remembrance & Eucharist.  The church was packed for the Civic Service and it was good to see a lot of young people there, including from the uniformed organisations and the youth group from Ty Llywellyn.  The service was attended by the Mayor of Llandudno, Cllr Mrs Myra Wigzell, and Town Councillors; Mr. Guto Bebb, M.P.; Janet Finch-Saunders, A.M.; Commanding Officer, RAF Valley; members of the armed services organisations, including the Blind Veterans Association (St. Dunstan's); coastguards and lifeboat crew; Lions Club; and many individuals, including visitors.  (Apologies to any organisations not listed.)  The service was followed by the parade to the Cenotaph, led by Llandudno Town Band.

Messy Church
The most recent Messy Church afternoon was on Sunday 4 November and the theme was "Darkness into Light".  This popular event for families included storytelling, songs, craft activities and a simple meal.

Ministry of Healing
The 10.30 am Eucharist on Sunday 21 October included the Ministry of Healing and members of the Guild of St. Raphael were involved in the service. 

Harvest Festival
On Sunday 7 October there was a Family Eucharist for Harvest Thanksgiving at 10.30 am.  Members of the Sunday School presented gifts of food at the altar, which would be given to Conwy Food Share.  The Sunday School also showed bees which they had been making while learning about honey gatherers supported by Christian Aid.  The decorations on this windowsill included bees and other animals for the children to look out for.

Summer Organ Concerts - 2012

Our Summer Lunch-time Organ Concerts, which were so successful last year, were held again this year on the five Wednesdays in August and there were retiring collections for the Organ Maintenance Fund.  The organ at Holy Trinity is the finest Parish Church organ in North Wales and our recitalists showed it off in programmes to suit all tastes.

Band Concert
On Thursday 19 July Llandudno Town Band performed a concert in Holy Trinity in aid of the Llandudno branch of Carers Wales.

On Monday 9 July Holy Trinity Church was packed for an excellent concert by Maelgwn Male Voice Choir, Fran Gerbic Mixed Choir from Slovenia and other musicians.

The latest Messy Church afternoon was on Sunday 1 July, beginning at 2.00 pm.  This popular event for families included storytelling, songs, craft activities and a simple meal.

Diamond Jubilee service poster
Queen's Diamond Jubilee Service 

There was a special service at 5.00 pm on Sunday 3 July to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.

This was a joint service for parishes in the Llandudno area and choirs from both benefices took part.  The preacher was the Bishop of Bangor, the Right Revd Andrew John.

Olympic Torch Relay   

The Olympic Flame was carried through the county of Conwy on Tuesday, 29 May. Starting from Conwy at 8.40am, the Torch was carried through Deganwy, Llandudno, Penrhyn Bay, Rhos-on-Sea, Colwyn Bay, Old Colwyn, Abergele, Towyn and Kinmel Bay before leaving the county at 2.50pm.  This was a once in a lifetime opportunity to view the Olympic Flame and the event was well supported. 

The Torch passed along the road alongside the Llandudno Promenade heading east from 10.51 am.  It was at its closest point to Holy Trinity Church at about 10.55am.

Holy Trinity Church Hall was open for refreshments to visitors to the town from 11.00am until 2.00pm.

Russian Choral Concert

Blagovest Ensemble at Holy Trinity  We were delighted that the Blagovest Ensemble returned to Holy Trinity on Monday 21 May to perform a concert of Russian sacred and folk music. 

Like their previous concerts here, this was very popular and was certainly an evening to enjoy.

Llandudno Victorian Extravaganza
This annual event took place over the bank holiday weekend of 5 - 7 May and we were pleased to welcome Extravaganza visitors to the Sunday services, while the refreshments teams were busy in the church hall on the Saturday and Monday.

On Sunday 22nd April Bishop Andy came to Holy Trinity to celebrate the Sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation within our Sunday Sung Eucharist.  One adult candidate was both Baptised and Confirmed and five junior candidates were Confirmed.  They are shown here with the Bishop and Rector.

Governing Body in Llandudno
The Governing Body of the Church in Wales  met at Llandudno during April and three special services were held at Holy Trinity.

The new Pascal Candle was lit at the Easter Vigil on Saturday evening and the Easter Garden was blessed on Easter morning.

The ecumenical Walk of Witness through the town was followed by an open air service at Holy Trinity.

Palm Sunday
The 10.30 am service on Sunday 1 April included a palm procession around the church.  This was led by donkey, followed by the Sunday School, choir and congregation.

Eucharist with the Bishops
The Bishops of the Church in Wales met in Llandudno and attended an 8.00 am Eucharist at Holy Trinity on Thursday 22 March, at which the celebrant was Archbishop Barry.  This photograph shows the Bishops with the Rector after the service.

Messy Church
Following the success of the first Messy Church afternoon in December, another event was held on Sunday 11 March.  A lively group of children and parents or carers came along to the church hall for an afternoon of crafts, stories and song, followed by refreshments.

Ministry of Healing
On Thursday 8 March celebrant at the St Raphael Guild Eucharist with Ministry of Healing was the Bishop of Bangor.  The service was followed by lunch and a talk on "The power of forgiveness" by Jane Jones from the Chester Cathedral branch of the Guild.

Women's World Day of Prayer
There was a service at Holy Trinity on Friday 2 March.  This year's service was written by women of Malaysia.  Please use this link to find out more about the Womens' World Day of Prayer. 

Deanery Quiet Day
This was held on Saturday 25th February at the Stella Maris Centre and was led by Revd Clive Hillman, Rector of Betws y Coed.  The theme for the day was:

The services were held on Sunday 23 December, and were attended by about 120 people at 3.00 pm, including the Holy Trinity Choir, and about 60 at 5.00 pm.  This photograph was taken at the first service.

Remembrance Service
There was a short Service of Remembrance at 9.00 am on Saturday 10 November, for those who lost their lives in the Boer War.  Wreaths were laid at the Boer War memorial in the churchyard by the Mayor of Llandudno, Cllr Mrs Myra Wigzell, and by the Lions Club of Llandudno.  There is another photograph on the St. Tudno's 2012 page.

Autumn Working Party
This was on Saturday 13 October.  There was a good turnout on a lovely day and we were able to clean the church, tidy the sheds and churchyard, put away the benches and check the tombstones.  There are photographs on the St. Tudno's 2012 and Friends of St. Tudno's archive pages. 

Harvest Thanksgiving Evening Service
This year we revived an old tradition of Harvest Thanksgiving services at St. Tudno's.  The service was at 4.00 pm on Sunday 30 September and this was the last service of the summer season.  During the service there was a collection of packets and tins of food for Conwy Food Share and the service was followed by tea and cakes.  There are more photographs on the St. Tudno's 2012 and Friends of St. Tudno's archive pages.

Service for International Day of Peace
On Sunday 23 September we were delighted to welcome to St. Tudno's members of Soropotomists International, Llandudno, for an afternoon service to celebrate the International Day of Peace.

The Friends' AGM was held on Saturday 22 August and began with a Eucharist service at St. Tudno's at 11.00 am, at which the celebrant and preacher was Bishop Andrew of Bangor.

On Saturday 15 September the Friends of St. Tudno's Church "manned" the church for an open day.  This included refreshments, stalls, a slideshow of old pictures of St. Tudno's and tours of the church and churchyard.  There are more more photographs on the St. Tudno's 2012 and Friends of St. Tudno's archive pages.

Service of Rededication and Thanksgiving for the roof restoration
This was a special service at 3.00 pm on Sunday 1 July to celebrate the restoration of the church.  Many supporters of Sponsor-a-Slate attended the service, which began with a procession around the church and included presentation of the books of sponsors.  Tea and cakes were served after the service, when there was an opportunity to look at the books of sponsors.  For further details, please see the St. Tudno's 2012 page. 

Service of Thanksgiving and Rededication

St. Tudno's Day, 5 June

Each year on St. Tudno's Day there is a Pilgrimage Walk up the Great Orme, from Holy Trinity Church to St. Tudno's.  This year the Pilgrimage began with a Eucharist service at Holy Trinity at 11.00 am.  The walk began from Holy Trinity at 12.00 noon and on the way to St. Tudno's there were pauses for prayers and to say some of the Psalms of Ascent. Packed lunches were eaten in St. Tudno's churchyard at the end of the walk.  There is another photograph on the St. Tudno's 2012 page.

Friends of St. Tudno's Church Spring Fair
This was held at Holy Trinity on Saturday 14 April, in aid of the current restoration work at St. Tudno's.  There are more photographs on the St. Tudno's 2012 and Friends of St. Tudno's archive pages.
