The Friends prepared for the Great Get Together picnic by trimming the grass and setting out tables decorated with the Great Get Together red and white gingham.
We again took part in the national Great Get Together event, organised by the Jo Cox Foundation and inspired by her words “we have more in common than divides us”. There was a special open air service at 3.00 pm on Sunday 23 June, attended by the Mayor and Mayoress of Llandudno. During the service, taken by Archdeacon Mary, everyone had a go at making a friendship bracelet to demonstrate how many different strands can be combined to make something beautiful. This also resulted in working together to learn how to do it! The service was followed by a bring-and-share picnic – which had almost finished before the rain began, when there was more working together to get everything inside!
Each year the Friends of St. Tudno’s organise a guided walk on the Great Orme, led by a local expert. This year the subject was churchyard geology and geologist Martin Trevelyan-Jones told us about the various rocks from which headstones in the churchyard had been made.
We were also pleased to see some cinnabar moths. The Friends of St. Tudno’s welcomed members of the Great Orme Exploration Society (GOES) to St. Tudno’s for a tour of the churchyard. The Friends told stories of some of the people buried in the churchyard and the (rather cold!) evening finished with hot drinks and cakes in the church. The season of open air services at St. Tudno’s is now under way. The services are held at the new time of 12.00 noon and include a simple Communion on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month. A free taxi departs from Holy Trinity at 11.30 am. On 9 June the services included making paper doves, to represent the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. The first performance of songs and readings from “The Feast of Life” was held at Holy Trinity Church on Sunday 26 May. A second performance was held at Gloddaeth Church on Sunday 2 June. “The Feast of Life” is an oratory production by Marty Haugen with Gary Daigle and is based on stories from the Gospel of Luke. The performers were from Holy Trinity and other churches in Llandudno and retiring collections were taken for Christian Aid.
Wednesday 5 June is St. Tudno’s Day and this will be celebrated with the annual Pilgrimage Walk and Eucharist.
The Pilgrimage will begin at Holy Trinity Church at 9.30 am and we will walk along the Prom and up the Orme via the Camera Obscura and Ski Slope. There will be Stations for prayer and reflection along the way and we will visit St. Tudno’s Well by kind permission of the landowners. The walk can be a bit rough, so stout footwear is recommended and some people take part in only sections of the walk – please contact us if you would like more details of the route The Patronal Eucharist will be held in St. Tudno’s Church at 12.30 pm; if you would like to bring a picnic to eat afterwards, drinks will be provided. Regular opening and services The church is open every day during summer and open air services are held each Sunday at 12.00 noon; on 2 and 19 June the service will include a simple celebration of Communion. A free taxi will depart from Holy Trinity at 11.30 am and if the weather is bad the service will be held in the church. On Tuesday 4 June there will be a service of Compline by Candlelight at 7.30 pm. This is a short, peaceful service and a chance for some quiet reflection in this wonderful setting.
