Organ recital, 10 July

The Church was full to capacity (someone counted 174) for our Grand Re-opening Lunch-time Organ Concert on Tuesday, 10 July when international concert organist, Paul Carr, gave the organ a thorough work-out with a programme ranging from virtuoso French organ showpieces, grand Bach, a British Trumpet Voluntary, music for a Clock Organ by Haydn, a Jazz inspired Chorale from Germany and the serene “The peace may be exchanged” by American composer Dan Locklair. I am pleased to report that the organ coped admirably with the wonderful variety of this music and Paul said how thrilled he was to be playing the organ again, now that everything is working (last time he came, his practice had to be interrupted whilst the organ builder patched up a serious problem). Paul responded to the rapturous applause at the end with a very quirky encore, the “Serenade” by Derek Bourgeois which brought a smile to everyone’s face. A very happy and successful occasion including a record breaking collection for one of our recitals of £555.

We now look forward to our annual Summer Lunch-time Organ Concerts on the four Tuesdays in August at 1.00 p.m. which this year take on an international flavour as we have Concert Organist Alessandro Bianchi from Italy playing for the third recital on 21 August.
