Friends of St. Tudno’s Pilgrimage, Friday 13 July 2018

The Friends welcome you to join us for our Pilgrimage on Friday 13 July. We will leave Holy Trinity at 9.00 am, travelling first to St. Dyfnog’s Church at Llanrhaeadr-yng-Nghinmeirch, near Denbigh, where we will be given a tour of the church and an explanation of the beautiful Jesse Window, which dates from 1533. There will be an opportunity to visit St. Dyfnog’s Well but this is optional as the path is very rough.  While in the village, there will be a demonstration at the Anvil Pottery and tea / coffee will be available at the King’s Head pub. From Llanrhaeadr we will climb (in the cars!) up to 1400’ (427 m) above sea level to the Ponderosa Cafe at the head of the Horseshoe Pass. Popular with motorcyclists, the “recce” party found this to provide a variety of good value snacks and meals, with fast service. We will then descend through the dramatic Horseshoe Pass to the atmospheric ruins of Valle Crucis Abbey, just outside Llangollen. After exploring the Abbey we will continue to our final destination, nearby Llantysilio Church. There will be time here to look around the church and take a walk to the lovely Horseshoe Falls. During the day, Pilgrim Prayers will be said along the way and we will finish with a short service in Llantysilio church, after which the people of the parish will very kindly serve tea and scones.

Costs for the day will be as follow. Tea / coffee at Llanrhaeadr: £2.00. Lunch at the Ponderosa Cafe: various prices starting at about £6.00 for sandwiches and a cake. Entry to Valle Crucis Abbey: Adult £4.00; Senior £3.20; Cadw card holders free. In addition, we will be asking for a small donation to both churches which we will visit. If you would like come on the Pilgrimage, please contact St. Tudno’s.
